In this blog post (and podcast episode) I’m going to give you 5 mindset hacks to help you unlock your full potential and get where you want to be — in your coaching business, and in your life.

5 MINDSET HACKS FOR SUCCESS

Let’s get into my five very specific mindset hacks that you can apply to your own mind almost immediately to help you be more productive, more powerful, more effective, and do the things you need to do to be the best version of yourself. 

I’m sure you’ve heard people talk about the power of mindset before, if you’ve listened to this podcast then you’ve DEFINITELY heard me talk about it before. 

I believe that my own success is based on equal parts mindset and strategy. In my worldview, you really can’t get anywhere or achieve your goals, whatever that goal might be, without those two pieces of the puzzle. You need both elements and you need healthy servings of both those elements.

I know that my thoughts dictate my actions, and in turn, my actions dictate my results. 

And if I want really incredible results, if I want to go places I’ve never gone, if I want to achieve big dreams and big goals, and show up in my business and my life as the best version of myself, I need to have thoughts that support the actions that will get me there.

So I know I need to have positive thoughts, empowering thoughts, clear and focused thoughts. Anything less is not going to get me there, and it’s only going to hold me back and throw up obstacles that are tricky to get around.

But, of course, it’s not always easy to manage our minds. It’s a neverending job to observe our thoughts, really tune in to where we’re holding ourselves back with limiting beliefs, and instead choose thoughts and beliefs that support the future we desire, and really show up as the best version of ourselves on a daily basis. 

So what do we do? What can we do to truly nourish our minds and actively create the mindset that supports the actions we want to take.

Well, that’s what I’m going to be diving into next, my friend, let’s get into those 5 mindset hacks that will have a huge impact on you immediately and will help you be your best self going forward. So let’s jump in. 

Mindset Hack #1: Commit & Go “All In”

Mindset hack number one is to ask yourself: where am I dabbling? Where am I not playing full-out? Where am I not committed 100% and where am I just dipping a toe in, playing it safe, playing it small.

Commitment is one of the key drivers of success. 

And standing out in the industry as a top coach requires you to be fully committed. To not hold back.

It also means excellence and high-quality. So instead of spreading yourself too thin and doing things kind of halfway, I recommend you focus on only a few things in your business, and really give it your all. 

Really focus on the highest level of quality and the highest level of excellence that you can focus on. 

So take a look at the things you’re working on right, your projects, where you’re spending your time and attention in your business, and really be clear that this is the thing that’s most important to work on and devote your attention to, and then go all in on that. Really see what you can do to commit even more, take things to the next level, and give it your all. 

Aim for excellence, to go pro, and to stand out in the marketplace.

Let’s say you want to create a group coaching program. And you’re kind of dabbling, kind of thinking it might be nice, but you’re just kind of halfway there.

Committing to that project means clearing your plate of other things that are a lesser priority. It means seeking out the right mentor who can help you put together a really incredible program to offer your clients, so you’re not reinventing the wheel or kind of winging it. It means joining a high-end group yourself, so you can experience it from the inside and then use that experience to create a first-class program for your own clients. It means immersing yourself in everything you need to know, and everything you need to become in order to go all in on that project, so that it will be a success.

Mindset Hack #2: Stop Trying To Please Others

Be honest with yourself: do you have a tendency to be a people-pleaser? Do you feel that urge to get other people’s approval? Do you get a little dopamine hit every time somebody likes your post or gives you a little pat on the back? You are not alone, my friend. Many, many of us have this tendency, especially women. I mean, really, we are hard wired for this. It’s a primitive survival thing, to get approval from the group, the tribe, because if we don’t get that, then we might be banished and forced out there away from the safety of our community and into the very dangerous world all alone to fend for ourselves — not really a recipe for survival in the paleolithic era.

Now, if you know this is a particular issue for you, if you know you have been paralyzed by the need for approval, by the fear of judgement or disapproval by people in your life, I recommend that you go back and listen to episode # which is called “How To Stop Caring What Others Think About You”.

But just briefly, right now, I want you to just acknowledge the importance of this. If you want to achieve big things that are important to you, personally, to achieve, then you are going to need to let go of the need to please others.

When I let go of this need — and let me assure you, it was not easy — that’s when I really began to find true happiness and satisfaction in life. And, as a result of that, true success in my business.

I had to shed A LOT of attachment to societal expectations by stepping outside of the confines of the person I thought I was supposed to be: a doctor, in a very conventional profession, very science-based, and I have talked about this a lot on this podcast and I’m sure I’ll talk about it more in future episodes. But I stayed miserable for a long time. A lot longer than was necessary. And I thought it was external reasons. But really, it was an inside job. It was me. I still craved approval and to please others. But once I released myself from all that, things got really good for me.

And I want the same thing for you.

So I’m giving you permission to follow your own path, and I want you to give yourself permission too. 

It’s okay. You can thank the primitive part of your brain for trying to keep you safe, but tell it that you’ve got this, you know what you’re doing. We’re not in paleolithic times so it’s okay if you carve your own path and go your own way. And once you can really step into that, really step into your truth and your own authentic way forward, you are going to be amazed at what happens next.

Mindset Hack #3: Know How To Get “In State”

Mindset hack number three is to do something that one of my mentors called getting “in state”. It’s a skill that’s really important to develop, especially if you’ve got a full schedule, and you would characterize yourself as being “busy”, and you have limited time blocks to get things done inside your business.

So what I mean is being able to do whatever it takes to get yourself into a frame of mind when you can feel good, and be able to be productive and do the things you need to do, whenever you need.

As an entrepreneur, you don’t have the luxury to wait until you feel good, or feel inspired to do something. 

If you have a limited time block available to you, and you have to record a video or a podcast, or write a sales page, then you simply need to be able to get into the right state or frame of mind to be able to do it, and do it well.

Unless you have all the time in the world available to you, if you happen to be a lady of leisure and you have loads of time at your disposal, and you’re not really in any kind of urgency to build and grow your business — I mean, if this is your case, then sure, you can absolutely wait for inspiration or wait until you feel like doing it.

But I’m willing to bet that that is not your situation. You are probably juggling a number of things, a day job, kids, all the things, and you probably want this business to be successful like yesterday … so what that means is that you need to be able to turn it on, your productivity and get “in state” on demand.

So how do you do this? How do you get yourself quickly into that high-vibe state where you can focus and be creative or whatever it is that you need to be in that moment, so you can show up as the inspirational coach and entrepreneur that you want to be.  

And this applies to videos, or when you’re creating content, and also especially to your coaching sessions.

You owe it to yourself to always be present for your clients, and you owe it to your community and your followers to get yourself ready for them. 

You need to figure out what works for you, personally. What will help to support you to get in state? Maybe it’s really upbeat music. Maybe it’s silence and a 10-minute meditation. Maybe it’s a vigorous workout. Maybe it’s a walk in nature. Maybe it’s a brief session with your journal. Maybe it’s reading something inspirational, or listening to an audio.

Whatever it is for you, be intentional about it. Choose practices that help you nourish your mind, make you feel good, and feel positive, and feel empowered so that you can show up as the best version of yourself every single day, and whenever you need to really turn on the juice.

And there’s no one else out there who will do this for you. Don’t wait for your partner to give you permission, or your friends, or your family, as much as these people love you and care about you, they aren’t going to ensure that you are doing what you have to do to get in state and take care of yourself and your business in quite the same way that you will.

It’s your job to make sure you’re doing this for yourself, and for your clients and your community.

Mindset Hack #4: Cultivate A Healthy Money Mindset

Next strategy I have for you, mindset hack number four, is to cultivate a healthy money mindset.

You need to have a very healthy relationship with your finances. 

Money mindset is something I’ve talked about before on this podcast, and I’ll talk about it again, but briefly, today, in order to cultivate a healthy money mindset, there are a couple of things you can do to start with.

For starters, I want you to fall in love with money and numbers.

Far too many women who I talk to, especially women coaches and entrepreneurs, have a love-hate relationship with money. And I don’t want you to have a love-hate relationship with money. I want you to have a love-love money relationship with money. You love it, and it loves you right back.

Because that split energy — that is not doing you any favors. This unrequited relationship you’ve been settling for, it’s not okay. You say you want more money, but then you actually speak badly of money. You say things like “Oh, but I don’t need much.” or you have secret unspoken thoughts and worries about being too greedy, or becoming money-hungry. And you are uncomfortable with the mere subject of money. In fact — check in with yourself — is this stuff that I’m saying right now, is this making you feel uncomfortable? Because if it is, then you have a split energy over money. And that means, on some level, you’re going to be pushing money away.

You say you want to attract people who are willing to pay you for your services — but you also don’t like having the part of the conversation where you’re actually talking about money and your prices, and so you try to avoid it or rush through that part. 

You say you want to make enough money to leave your day job, but you avoid looking at your books and your bank account, actually looking at the numbers, because it makes you unhappy and it’s better just to ignore it. 

You say you want to attract people who are ready to invest in coaching — but when it comes to investing in coaching for YOURSELF, you say “money is really tight right now, I can’t afford that at the moment.” 

You can see how this is a massive contradiction, right? You can see how this cannot possibly support a truly empowered, fruitful relationship with money if you’re living in this place of scarcity, but at the same time expecting other people to act differently. 

So I want you to embrace money. I want you to fall in love with it. I want you to know your numbers. Look at your bank account, don’t get all squeamish about it. Figure out what you actually need and want to support the lifestyle you truly desire — and don’t apologize for that. Don’t hide that truth from yourself because you’re afraid of aiming too high.

You deserve it. You really do. But you’re never going to get it if you don’t actually OWN your desires.

Also, get more comfortable with the idea that money is an exchange. Investing money on yourself, on your business, is the way to grow your business and the way to open yourself up to receiving more. It’s like breathing. It’s an in and out thing. In order to breathe in more air, you have to exhale first. If you’re holding your breath, and hoping that somehow, against all odds, more air will come into your lungs, you’re only hurting yourself. It does not work that way.

Money is a renewable resource. I’m not saying go out right now and drop tens of thousands of dollars, but you need to begin to increase and stretch your risk tolerance, and begin investing your money at the level you want to receive at.

Meaning: you’re not going to magically start making six figures if you’re not investing at a level that supports that. You’re not going to be able to bootstrap your way there forever. To start, maybe. But soon enough, you’ll need to invest. In your own growth, in the tools you’ll need, in the support you need, in a team or extra help with tech, in your own coach, in your own learning, in upgraded equipment. As you grow your business and as you sharpen your mindset, I want you to constantly upgrade your risk tolerance, upgrade your money mindset and begin acting like the person who makes six figures, or seven figures, or whatever you are aiming for. This is what will allow you to receive more, and actually become that person. As much as you would like it to be the other way around, it just isn’t.

All right, I could talk about money mindset all day, but let’s move on to mindset hack #5, which is to enjoy the journey.

Mindset Hack #5: Enjoy The Journey

What I mean by this, is to make BIG plans. But at the same time, detach from outcome.

I want you to stay fixed on the goal, but flexible on the method. I’ve heard this referred to as: relentlessly flexible. Which is an interesting little paradoxical phrase, but when you think about it, it totally works.

This is all about managing expectations, and staying in the game, no matter what happens.

A lot of times new coaches struggle with this concept.

I hate to say it, but a lot of you are expecting immediate payoff.

I see people saying they “tried” doing a webinar but it didn’t work. Nothing happened. They didn’t get the clients they were hoping for. They take this to mean that “webinars don’t work for them” and they give up and move on to the next approach.

But this isn’t how it works.

It’s kind of like going to a single yoga class, your very first, and by the end of the class, you can’t do a scorpion pose. Plus you don’t notice one thing that’s different about your body, you’re certainly not any leaner or more flexible, or anything that you can see. So you give up, and you say “yoga doesn’t work”.

And you can see how this would be crazy, right? Nobody would say this. Nobody would expect a magical transformation after a single class. That’s not how it works.

The magic, the transformation, happens with repetition. With going back. With making it a habit. With continuing to work on it, and learn, and improve, and get stronger over time.  

So it’s the same with business maneuvers. With marketing strategy and business-building tactics. 

The magic is in the persistence. With trying, and testing, and learning, and getting better, and upgrading, and refining. But staying relentless about that. If something doesn’t work straight away, get curious about that. Hmm, what do the numbers show? Where did people drop off from that webinar? Did they check out before i even got to my call to action? Maybe I need to move my call to action up a bit, plant the seed in the frist 15 minutes. Okay, let’s try that and then observe the results.

Stay relentlessly flexible. Relentless that you’re going to get there, flexible on the method that will get you there.

And, always, enjoy the journey.

Let go of expectation, let go of putting so much pressure on yourself, and instead, do it for the love of the game. Enjoy the process because you are learning so much about yourself, about other people, about business….so many things. Don’t put everything on the outcome, don’t beat yourself up, and don’t make it MEAN anything when something doesn’t work.

Building a truly successful business is not a straight line. It’s okay, that’s how it’s supposed to go.
