Do you remember the “that girl” trend that became super popular on social media a few years back?
You know, when suddenly your feed was flooded with perfectly curated morning routines and daily habits.
The “that girl” routine went beyond productivity and self-care; it had a specific vibe, focused on aesthetics, and, of course, was utterly color-coordinated.
If, like me, you tried to cultivate the “that girl” routine yourself but found it unrealistic or just not for you, I have an alternative, more accessible routine to share with you.
And I just want to say, if you love the “that girl” routine and you find it DOES work for you then by all means, continue as you are.
But if you find it a little superficial or cookie-cutter, this week’s article and YouTube video is for you.
Introducing “that woman,” the wellness and productivity routine for those of us who appreciate self-care but don’t have hours and hours to dedicate to it each day.
In this article, I share four steps to becoming THAT WOMAN and crafting a life that authentically reflects who you are and what you stand for.
Step One: Embrace Authenticity And Self-acceptance
The “that girl” routine is heavily focused on aesthetics and being effortlessly chic, and the whole trend has a particular, carefully curated vibe.
However, “that woman” is about being authentic and unapologetically showing up as your true self.
Rather than trying to fit the mold or follow specific trends, it’s about reclaiming your power and embracing your uniqueness.
For example, perhaps the “that girl” routine was perfect for you when you were 24 and single and lived alone. But now, you’ve had a baby, and life is much more complicated.
So it’s time to rewrite the rules to fit YOUR life.
The “that woman” routine gives YOU power.
You don’t have to act or be a certain way; you have complete control over your routine and habits.
In other words, the routine is completely tailored to your unique needs, embracing individualism.
Still, embracing our individuality can be challenging, as society encourages us to compare ourselves to others. It’s so easy to get caught in this comparison trap, but this only leads to feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt.
So, before you proceed to the following steps, let go of comparing yourself to others and embrace and celebrate your true self instead.
Step Two: Create Your Productivity Routine
Three types of routines encompass becoming “that woman”: productivity, health, and happiness.
Now, the “that girl” approach to productivity involves particular rituals, such as:
- Waking up before sunrise
- Drinking lemon water
- Creating an aesthetic plan for your day in a bullet journal
- Using color-coordinated pens
But the problem with this is that, for many people, it is unrealistic and unnecessary.
For example, if you’ve got three young kids, it’s unlikely you have the time to spend hours each morning creating an aesthetic plan for your day in a bullet journal.
Or maybe having things color-coordinated and looking beautiful doesn’t do anything for your happiness.
If so, here’s what an alternative “that woman” productivity routine could look like…
“That Woman” focuses on efficiency and effectiveness over aesthetics.
You can still plan your day, but you don’t need a beautiful planner and you can choose the planning system that works for you.
Because here’s the thing…
You are a woman with things to do. Your productivity tools do not need to look perfect and be color-coordinated, especially if that will get in the way of getting stuff done.
Another element of “that woman” productivity routines is to get badass about your time management techniques.
To do this, you need to craft a system that works for you. This will involve experimenting with the many time management tools to find the ones that work best for you rather than copying/pasting what everyone else does.
Step Three: Create Your Health Routine
Now, let’s talk about the second type of routine – health.
Again, rather than being a cookie-cutter routine like “that girl,” “that woman” offers a tailored approach.
Rather than adopting trendy habits, you should adopt sustainable habits that align with your individual preferences and needs.
So, if yoga is not your cup of tea, don’t force yourself to do it. And if you can’t stomach ginger shots, skip them.
Choose what works for your body and your life.
“That woman” also prioritizes holistic health, focusing on overall well-being rather than just physical appearance. This means including practices to nourish your mental and emotional health, such as:
- Regular exercise – What form of movement you do and what time of day you exercise is totally up to you. Choose activities you enjoy rather than the ones you think you should do!
- Nutrition—Beautifully plated meals and colorful smoothies are not essential to being “that woman.” Plan and prep your food in a way that works for you.
- Mental Health—Choose rituals and routines that support your mind and soul, whether it’s breathing exercises, meditation, or journaling. Figure out what keeps you balanced and aligned, and then schedule them into your day and week.
Step Four: Create Your Happiness Routine
Finally, being “that woman” involves cultivating joy in your daily life.
To do this, make time to pursue things that are purely for fun.
Take up a sport or activity simply because you enjoy doing it, without setting yourself any goals or with the aim of doing it professionally.
Or learn a new skill without any agenda or plan to turn it into a business or side hustle.
There are hundreds of hobbies that you could incorporate into your “that woman” routine to increase your happiness and improve your sense of joy and fulfillment in your daily life.
Painting, drawing, writing poetry, gardening, photography, and knitting are just a few ideas.
Choose what intrigues you or what you feel passionate about.
